Amber Heard Pens Moving Essay on Domestic Abuse: ''I Resented the Label of Victim''

Image
Amber Heard wants those suffering from domestic violence to know that they are not alone. The actress, who is currently in the last steps of finalizing her divorce to Johnny Depp , penned a lengthy, heartfelt essay in Porter magazine for their December issue. In it, she expresses her resentment towards being labeled a victim, why women around the globe should feel empowered to speak out and why no one should suffer in silence any longer. "You are not alone. You may have suffered alone behind closed doors, but you are not alone. You need to know that. I want to remind you of your strength, a strength that has been multiplied by the number of women who stand silently behind you—a truth that allowed me to break down the doors I once found myself behind," she began by writing. How I survived Uyo Church building collapse – Ini Edo

Image
But for divine intervention, popular Nollywood actress, Ini Edo, would have been a victim of the collapsed church building in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital. The roof of the Reigners Bible Church in Uyo, caved in during an ordination service on Saturday, klling at least 29 people. Hundreds of worshippers including the state governor, Udom Emmanuel, were present when the incident occurred. Ini Edo, who is the Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom State Governor on Tourism, attributed her lucky escape to a missed flight to Uyo. She shared her “testimony” with her 1.6 million Instagram followers. “Two days ago, I was very bitter about the unreliable nature of some of our airlines cancelling flights without prior notice thereby hindering my plans to attend a church service ceremony held in Uyo. Now out of determination, I took a flight to Calabar with the hope of being in Uyo just in time for the service since the journey between Calabar and Uyo was just about an hour. T

How Your Sign Affects Your Sex Life

Image
If you’re an Aries , you’re all about the quickie. Hey, girl, don’t blush, we’ve all been there: that desperate urge to get down and dirty but with little to no time. You’re just into the thrill of a speedy sex sesh more than others. As the first sign of the Zodiac, you like things “strong and hot and heavy,” Tower says. So don’t deny that raring ready-to-go feeling. Instead jump on it…literally, since a woman-on-top position that ensures quick climaxing is best for you. Try “Twirl-a-girl,” where you’re on top of your partner, who’s lying chest upwards, and your legs are perpendicular, all which allow you to twist those hips–think Shakira–towards a–fingers crossed–climax. As the saying goes, slow and steady wins the race, especially if you’re a Taurus . According to Tower, a Taurus “can go for hours,” starting with a lingering experience like a massage. She then should gradually move to generous amounts foreplay and, finally, to sex itself, which involves just as muc

Anti-Islamic Dutch politician's popularity soars after he is convicted for discrimination

Image
The West appears to be in the febrile grip of a far right movement and it's in full swing. First the British voted Brexit, America followed suit by electing Donald Trump, Italy joined the party, Germany partially did with Angela Merkel's suggested ban on Burqha and Austria avoided it by only a slim margin. Netherlands is the next stop. Geert Wilders, a 53yr old Anti-islamic MP is the country's conservative poster boy who has vowed to confiscate Qurans, close mosques and Islamic schools and according to polls, his Freedom Party is set to be the country's biggest in parliament after the forthcoming March elections. He was recently convicted of discrimination against Moroccans but is yet to be sentenced. The three-week trial of Wilders had focused in particular on a statement made at a 2014 local government election rally in The Hague, when he asked supporters whether they wanted 'fewer or more Moroccans in your city and in the Netherlands'. When women united against corruption

Image
History of collective action against societal ills as recorded in the 1929 Aba riot and Egba women revolt of 1947 was re-enacted on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) gathered women for the launch of Nigerian Women Against Corruption campaign. The campaign, an initiative of the Ibrahim Magu -led EFCC, was flagged off by the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha. She was assisted by the wife of the Vice President, Mrs Oludolapo Osinbajo at the Abuja International Conference Center. A similar campaign entitled ‘Creative Youth Initiative Against Corruption’ had been launched earlier for secondary schools and youths in August in Abuja and has been taken to other zones of the country. Like the women of old who were drawn out of their cocoon by necessity to make the difference in the task of rebuilding the society, EFCC is also calling on Nigerian women to be the catalyst in the narrative of the fight against corruption.

10 Plant-Based Foods That Boost Your Immunity

Image
By Marni Wasserman  Garlic The most pungent of the plant kingdom inhabitants, garlic contains the immune-stimulating compound allicin, which promotes the activity of white blood cells to destroy cold and flu viruses. It also stimulates other immune cells, which fight viral, fungal, and bacterial infections. Garlic kills with near 100 percent effectiveness the human rhinovirus, which causes colds, common flu, and respiratory viruses.Because allicin is released when you cut, chop, chew, or crush raw cloves, allow freshly chopped garlic to stand for 10 minutes and then cook it, sprinkle it over foods, drop it into soup, or swallow bits of garlic with some water like a pill. You can also drop a clove of garlic into some honey and swallow it immediately for a quick dose that tastes good! Onions Onions, like garlic, contain allicin. Oil prices soar to $58 on output cut deal

Image
By Adewale Sanyaolu with agency reports Nigeria may begin to reap from soaring oil prices as crude prices shot to $58, its highest level since 2015 on Monday after OPEC reached first output cut deal since 2001 . According to the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, oil prices at $60 a barrel would be ideal for Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), as higher levels risk sparking a recovery in competing supplies from the US. On Saturday, producers from outside OPEC, led by Russia, agreed to reduce output by 558,000bpd, short of the target of 600,000bpd but still the largest contribution by non-OPEC ever. That followed the November 30 deal by OPEC to cut output by 1.2 million bpd for six months from January 1, 2017, with top exporter, Saudi Arabia, cutting around 486,000bpd to curb the supply glut that has dogged markets for two years. They jointly reduced output in order to rein in oversupply and prop up the market. Brent sweet crude fu

How to get more storage in Android

Image
The easiest way to add storage to your Android phone or tablet is with a microSD card, even if it doesn’t support one. Assuming it does, when buying a microSD card for your phone or tablet, you should first check the manufacturer’s specification or reviews of that device to see what type of cards it will accept. Many budget phones, for example, will accept only 32GB, while higher-end devices typically handle 128GB. You certainly don’t want to pay out for a 128GB card only to find it won’t work in your phone. You will find manufacturers offer various types of microSD card, with some claiming to be faster or more secure than others are. For simple storage of your files any microSD card will do, but note that fakes can be found online, so be wary of anything too cheap or brands you haven’t come across before. If your phone or tablet doesn’t natively support microSD, it’s easy to attach one to make use of on an ad-hoc basis using a microSD card reader, which connects

Ronaldo wins fourth Ballon d’Or award

Image
Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo won the Ballon d’Or for a fourth time on Monday night, beating Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann to world football’s top individual prize for 2016, Soccernet reports. Ronaldo, who previously won the award in 2008, and in 2013 and 2014 when it was officially the FIFA Ballon d’Or, is only the second player to win it a total of four times, trailing only Messi’s record of five. The honour caps a memorable year that saw Ronaldo win the Champions League with Real Madrid and the European Championship with Portugal – the country’s first major footballing silverware. Ronaldo, 31, has scored 51 goals in 54 games for club and country in 2016. “It is a special moment. It means that all my sacrifice was worth it. I feel very happy to win this. I worked very hard,” Ronaldo said in accepting the award. “A lot of people helped me get here, and it is not easy to get here. You can count on one hand players who main

Rekindling Romance with Communication

Image
By Sabine Walter, Pierre A. Lehu One of the most widespread forms of miscommunication between men and women stems from the fact that too many people, especially men, equate sex with romance. They believe that if their sex life is adequate, then there’s no need for anything beyond this one arena. Tied to this is the notion that romantic activity outside the bedroom is automatically a lead-in to sexual activity. And by the way, this is a double-edged sword. Many people think of kissing and hugging as preludes to sex. As a result, when they aren’t in the mood, they don’t want to snuggle because they assume that it will lead to sex. This can be true of both partners in a relationship where a pattern has been established that kissing and hugging lead to sex. So the first batch of people may avoid physical contact if it’s not attached to sex, and the second group may avoid physical contact because they fear that it will lead to sex at the wrong time. Either way,

Buhari: Nigeria to register 400 Dams by 2019

Image
Okechukwu Nnodim, Abuja President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday declared that his administration would construct additional 400 dams to boost irrigation across the country before the expiration of his term in 2019. He also revealed that Nigeria’s population doubles itself every 25 years, stressing that this was why the government had decided to focus on revamping agriculture and solid mineral sectors. Buhari disclosed this to delegates from Africa and other continents at the 32nd Annual Meeting of the Food Crisis Prevention Network which was held in Abuja. The President said the government had started implementing measures to expand the production of grains and other agricultural produce in Nigeria, adding that the country would start experiencing three harvesting seasons when more dams become operational in the next two years. Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, said, “We can no longer rely on

Donald Trump warned about losing US jobs by Chinese billionare

The billionaire owner of China’s property-to-entertainment conglomerate Wanda Group has warned Donald Trump that over 20,000 US jobs would be put at risk if the US president-elect mishandles Chinese investment in the country. “I have over $10 billion investment in the United States and employ over 20,000 people,” Wanda’s CEO Wang Jianlin said in a forum over the weekend, according to a transcript posted Saturday to the company’s official site. “If things are mishandled, they will have nothing to eat,” he added. Wang said he had asked Chris Dodd, chairman of the Motion Picture Association of America, to deliver his message to Trump. He was responding to a question about US lawmakers’ increasing scrutiny of Chinese acquisitions of American entertainment assets. “At least in the movie and TV industry, you have to realise that English-language films rely on their Chinese box office for growth,” Wang added. Chinese firms have been on a high-profile overseas acquis
