Hull City Pleased With Silva As New Manager

Image
Hull City have expressed delight with the appointment of Marco Silva as their new Head Coach. The Tigers Vice-Chairman, Ehab Allam, told the club’s website that one of the reasons they considered before the confirmation on Thursday was the 39-year-old’s football philosophy. He added that the club was already working hard with the new manager to bring in more crucial additions in the transfer window. “He (Silva) has a great track record and we feel this is a bold and exciting appointment in our aim to retain the club’s Premier League status. Marco will be bringing in his own back-room team who have all played their part in his recent success. “We are already working hard with Marco and his team to deliver some key additions to our squad during this transfer window,” he said. Silva was previously managing Olympiacos, where he won the Greek league title and enjoyed a memorable Champions League victory over Arsenal last season. Lai Mohammed and the 40 SUVs: One lie too many By Musa Abubakar

Image
As the year 2016 drew to a close, Nigerians started looking forward to a new year, trying to savour the joy and hope 2017 could usher into the country in the midst of a devastating economic recession. Expectant of a new beginning in their personal lives and in the direction of governance, many Nigerians woke up to a rude shock on Thursday 29th of December 2016, when the Nigerian media became awash with reports that the Federal Government had recovered 40 new Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) from a former permanent secretary. The reports emanated from a statement personally signed and widely distributed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed. In the statement, Lai Mohammed went on to shower praises on the anti-corruption campaign of President Buhari, crediting the gove

Open Your Eyes to the Richness of Life

Image
I am sure that we have all heard the phrase, “Not all that glitters is gold.” Wealth is too often measured by what weighs down our pockets or by what clinks together metallically. People throw around their money as if this financial power equated to physical or mental strength; and all the while they are unhappy. The “richness of life” goes against the societal obsession of money equaling happiness or fulfillment. Lusting after pennies and dimes steals away the one thing that makes life beautiful. That would be the happiness found in daily life, or the human experience. Emotional richness reigns supreme over financial riches Money gives you one thing: the power to obtain all that can be purchased. The more money you have, the more you can buy. However, how many times have you purchased something you thought you truly wanted only to regret it moments later? More than half of the belongings we accumulate throughout our lives is later deemed useless junk. We end up drowning in our

10 Compliments Strong Women Adore

Image
Don’t we all love a compliment? After all, we are human beings with the same need for connection, recognition and acceptance. A compliment provides us with all three of those things. I guess to some people, the term ‘strong women’ might conjure up images of no-nonsense, hard-nosed business people who do not care for kind words. But I think that is rather silly. As strong women, we do not have any less need for a compliment now and again. We do need recognition, and we love to be recognized for the things that are important to us: our strengths, our passions and our efforts in this world. What we do not need is the disingenuousness or misogyny that sometimes comes with a compliment directed at a woman. So please do tell us that we look lovely, but without the leering. And please do congratulate us on our achievements, but only if you really mean it. We do not need lip service. Here are ten compliments that strong women absolutely adore. 1. Congratulations on your accomplishmen

Obama: Going to Newtown was the ‘toughest day of my presidency’

Image
As Barack Obama continues to reflect on his legacy in a series of exit interviews, the outgoing president says he still considers the day he met with the parents of the victims of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012 the toughest day of his presidency. “I still consider the day I traveled up to Newtown to meet with parents and address that community as the toughest day of my presidency,” Obama told the History Channel in an interview that will air on Jan. 15, five days before he leaves office. “It’s the only time I ever saw Secret Service cry at an event. So it was brutal.” Obama himself has often been moved to tears when reflecting on the mass shooting that killed 26 people — including 20 children — in Newtown, Conn., on Dec. 14, 2012. He teared up delivering a statement the day of the massacre, at an interfaith vigil in Newtown, and even at the White House last January while announcing executive actions designed to curb gun deaths. “Every time I think about th
