According to a new CNN/ORC poll, 58% percent of Americans believe that Donald Trump would have still come out victorious against Hillary Clinton in the U.S Presidential elections whether Russia interfered in the election process or not. 8 in 10 Americans say they have been closely following news about Russia's attempts to influence the election last year, including 84% of Democrats, 75% of independents and 72% of Republicans, while another 56% of Americans believe that despite hacking attempts by Russia, the US ought to continue its efforts to improve relations with Russia and Vladmir Putin instead of imposing strong economic and diplomatic actions against Kremlin. About 47% of Americans also think Donald rump will be very easy on Russia when he assumes presidency, another 43% say he'll be 'about right' with Russia while another 8% think he will be too tough with Russia. He happily posed for pictures with three of the ferocious creatures at the Everglades Outpost Wildlife Rescue. He said: 'People think of alligators as mindless killers but if you understand their behaviour it is possible to handle them in surprising ways, I wanted to show how calm and gentle these amazing creatures can be. 'The underwater shots are of wild gators I had never seen before this day, but with the proper experience and ability to "read" their behaviour it is possible to handle them like this. 'These are wild caught "nuisance" alligators, "nuisance" means that they are gators that have shown potentially dangerous behavior, such as getting into backyards or eating a dog.' The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)  on Monday confirmed on Twitter that retired astronaut, Eugene Cernan, who was the last man to set foot on the moon has died at the age of 82. 'We are saddened by the loss of retired NASA astronaut Gene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon'. The late Cernan who serve as spacecraft commander of Apollo 17, was one of only three people to go to the Moon twice, and the last man to leave a footprint on the lunar surface in 1972. The mission was launched on December 1972.

On Sunday, Lightning struck and killed six people and left many others injured with severe burns at a funeral, which held in Binga District of Zimbabwe. According to Zim News, the people had taken shelter under a tree when a bolt of lightning struck, killing six people on the spot. Speaking about the tragic incident, Chief Siachilaba from Binga said that they died while attending his late sister’s funeral at her homestead when the tragedy struck. He said when it started raining, some of the people attending the funeral took shelter under the tree which was later struck by lightning.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has warned that, “heaven will fall” should President Muhammadu Buhari order soldiers to interrupt its Friday’s rally in solidarity of the United States, President-elect, Donald Trump. In a statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group explained that the rally was aimed at making the world understand how “resolute and committed we are towards the emancipation, realisation and proclamation of our God given right to live as free men and women in our ancestral land of Biafra.” Noting that should security operatives attack its members during the rally, “the non violent position of our great movement will be revoked with immediate effect. The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, and Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade, on Tuesday met behind closed-doors to consider a blueprint of the Deep Seaport project initiated by the Governor’s administration. At the meeting held in Abuja that lasted for about 40 minutes, both leaders discussed extensively, the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport and the 260 kilometre superhighway signature projects of Professor Ayade, both estimated to cost about 700 billion Naira. The Deep Seaport will boost the export of produce such as rice and banana as well as solid minerals, the Cross River government hopes. According to Governor Ayade, “the Deep Seaport would not compete with existing Calabar Ports. It will only complement it because the Bakassi Port will be a 16-meter draft and will accommodate mother vessels especially from the far East”. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Tuesday said it would install 13,000 Closed Circuit Television cameras at major flashpoints across the state to boost its operations. According to a statement issued by Adebayo Kehinde, LASEMA’s head of Public Affairs Unit, the move is part of efforts by the state government to improve the impact of emergency and disaster management in the state through effective and efficient response system. The government also plans to step up a Monitoring and Surveillance Unit and establish additional dispatch centres across the state, the statement added. Adesina Tiamiyu, General Manager of LASEMA, said the 13,000 CCTV cameras would complement the emergency call numbers as analysts could adequately monitor activities from the Command and Control Centres across the State. “These combined efforts can only make Lagos safer,” Mr. Tiamiyu said. It only takes a leader with courage to harbour such intentions amidst the lean financial position of the state. Cross River state receives almost the smallest allocation from the federal government. Over the past few years, what has been the major source of revenue generation for the state has been taxation. So for the governor to think of exempting low income earners from taxes is a rare but a welcome development. However, while I am a student of Seneca school of thought that intention is more important than what is given, this philosophy as it is cannot be applicable in all cases. Yes! The political crisis in The Gambia took a different turn yesterday when the incumbent president, Yahya Jammeh, declared a state of emergency in the country. According to a statement by the country's parliament, the state of emergency took effect from yesterday January 17th and will continue until April 17th this year. He is meant to hand over to his successor, Adama Barrow, tomorrow January 19th but it looks like he won't.                           

Poverty stricken Mentewab Dawit Lebiso, who is the biological mother of Angelina Jolie's adopted Ethiopian daughter Zahara, has made a heartfelt plea to Jolie to let her have access or at least be able to talk to her daughter on the phone. Lebiso who gave birth to her daughter when she was only 19 in 2005, says she doesn't know the father of her baby because she was brutally raped by an unknown man who broke into her grandmother's house in Shone, while she was there for a visit.  She said when she gave birth to her baby girl, she named her Yemasrech, which in her native Amharic language, means 'good news'. She said after she got pregnant from the rape, she was too scared to tell her parents, but when the pregnancy began to show, she was forced to tell them. She said after she confessed that she was pregnant, her family initially disowned her, so she went to live in the nearby town of Hosanna where she says she gave birth to her daughter in January 2005.
