“We Are Coming This Week To Collect Our Dues” – Robbers Write Lagos Residents

Image
Some suspected armed robbers have written some Lagos residents urging them to prepare to pay the season’s dues to them on a date not mentioned. Residents of Joseph Harrison Estate, in the Yaba area of Lagos State got the letter from the bandits on Wednesday notifying them of their impending attack to collect their “dues” for the festive season. The letter was placed on the vehicle of one of the residents and was discovered in the morning when he was about to wash his car. “We are coming this week to collect our dues and to visit you tenants and landlords of Joseph Harrison Street. If you like go and bring police or soldiers, we are coming to perform our duties. If you cooperate, we will not kill, but if you fail to cooperate, blood will flow,” the letter said. Checks at the estate on Tuesday revealed that sterner security measures have been put in place to protect lives and properties in the community. Fidel Castro: The Burden of a Name, By Dele Agekameh

Image
For many of my generation and those who admire him, Castro will retain a special place in our collective psyche, no matter what others might say. His legacies will outlive him. It is not only those who attended Castro’s funeral last Sunday that are mourning him. There are lots of other mourners all over the globe. One of them is yours truly. My obsession with Fidel Castro’s persona dates back to 1972. That was my second year as a student at Saint John’s Grammar School, Ile-Ife, present day Osun State. Saint John’s was founded in 1962 by the late Reverend Father Fabian Cloutier. He was a Christian missionary of the Roman Catholic faith who came all the way from Canada to Nigeria for pastoral duties and settled in Ile-Ife where he lived until he retired and relocated to Canada. He died a few years ago. As a person who had served at the altar right from my primary school through secondary school, it was a little bit absurd to adopt Fidel Castro as a nickname then, especi

Angela Merkel calls for countrywide, full-face veil ban in Germany

Image
The German chancellor says facial coverings don't align with German values and should be banned wherever possible. Newsy BERLIN — German Chancellor Angela Merkel called Tuesday for a countrywide ban on face-covering veils such as burqas worn by some devout Muslim women, as she made a pitch for her fourth term in next year's elections. Speaking at a conference of her conservative Christian Democratic Union party, Merkel said she would support the ban "wherever possible." She also said last year's migrant crisis that drew about 890,000 refugees to Germany "must never happen again." "The full-face veil is not acceptable in our country," she said to party members meeting in Essen. "It should be banned wherever legally possible." “A situation like the one in the late summer 2015 cannot, should not and must not be repeated," she added. In August, German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière proposed a ban on the burq

Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz React to Scheana Shay and Mike Shay's Divorce

Image
Not all was as it seemed in Scheana Shay and Mike Shay 's marriage. Vanderpump Rules co-stars Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz appeared on Watch What Happens Live Monday, and host Andy Cohen asked them about their castmates' split . "It was honestly—it came out of nowhere," Tom said. "We were blindsided." "We all thought they'd be together forever," interjected Katie, who appeared awkward at the line of questioning. Katie and Tom, who tied the knot in August, didn't expect Scheana and Mike to split because the couple didn't seem like they were having trouble. "You never know what's going on behind closed doors," Tom added. "They seemed happy from outward appearances. It's so fresh." Katie wrapped the conversation with one final comment: "It's for the best." E! News confirmed Scheana filed f

Nigeria commences process to make visa issuance easier

Image
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Tuesday in Abuja reiterated call for a change in the nation’s visa administration to encourage tourists and investors. The minister made the call when he received Jim Flannery, an international advisor to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, UNTWO. The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the advisor was sent by UNWTO to assist in the review of Nigeria Tourism Master Plan. The minister stressed that a new regime that allowed for easy access to visa for tourists and investors at point of entry was required for the tourism sector to grow. He said he was glad that government had set up a committee on the ease of doing business which would look into it. The minister also underscored the need for the nation to do away with bureaucracy and encourage full participation of the private sector in growing the tourism industry. “We must begin to understand that tourism is the new oil that we have failed

Portuguese pupils top OECD averages for first time

Image
Portuguese teens scored their best results ever in 2015’s OECD PISA tests, which evaluate education systems worldwide. For the first time in a ranking dominated by Asian countries, Portugal’s pupils have reached the top 20 of more than 70 countries, and pushed through the OECD averages in scientific literacy, reading and mathematics. In the first area - a subject dominated by Asian countries - Portugal did better than any other European nation - and a great deal better, say reports, than its Spanish neighbours. On the slightly negative side however is the fact that only half the pupils in the study were in the right year for their age. (PISA tests are centred on 15-year-olds, irrespective of which class they might be in. This means a number of the pupils taking part will have failed at least one year in their scholastic progress). Another cause for reserve is that various areas of the country - the Algarve, Azores and Bragança in particular - did not score above

2017 Grammys: Snubs and Surprises Include Drake, Sia, David Bowie and More

Image
Unsurprisingly, the 2017 Grammys will be a face off between Adele and Beyoncé in four categories, including Album of the Year. But what is surprising, however, is who didn't make the cut in that category (or in other categories). Like any award show, the 2017 Grammys are filled with snubs and surprises, which are sure to leave fans upset, shocked and feeling like asking, "what?!" Alas, it happens every year, so here are the biggest snubs and surprises from the upcoming Grammys, which will be hosted by James Corden . Snubs David Bowie 's Blackstar in Album of the Year: While the late legend's album was nominated in other categories, including Best Alternative Music Album and Best Recording Package, fans certainly expected to see his last album in the Album of the Year category. But that wasn't the case.

Wife denies Husband sex and he Choped off his Manhood

Image
A sexually frustrated husband, who claims his wife had not slept with him in a decade, has taken matters into his own hands in a bizarre manner. Ghasi Ram, 37, from India, cut off his own penis after losing his cool. He had come home drunk and started pestering his wife Manjhri Devi, 34, for sex. The shocking incident took place in a village in Uttar Pradesh in northern India. Manjhri said: ‘He would come home drinking every night and never listened to me or cared for me. ‘I just simply said no to him as he was drunk and I was very angry with him. Now he is blaming me for all this when I have done nothing.’ Her husband told reporters: ‘I was frustrated. We have not had sex for the last ten or twelve years. ‘She would never make love to me. She will not sit close to me and always refuses my demands.’ No complaint has been filed with the police in the case.

The Flash Won't Actually Kill [Spoiler], Right?!

Image
The Flash's latest villain sure does know how to spook Barry Allen. After a whole bunch of incredible business with the (not really sorta) philosopher's stone, finding out that Julian was Dr. Alchemy, and realizing that Alchemy was actually just Savitar using people to do his bidding, Barry and the gang had Julian channel Savitar so they could have a little chat. Turns out Savitar is one nasty dude who comes from the future and is really, really angry at future Barry. In typical Flash villain form, he's mad that Barry will someday take everything from him, and having a great time lording his knowledge of the future over everybody at Star Labs. "One shall betray you. One shall fall. One will suffer a fate far worse than death," Savitar via Draco told the room. Then, we found out which one shall fall. Apparently

Demystifying Trump’s paradoxical victory

Image
The November 8, 2016 presidential election in the United States of America has come and gone but the political antics and gimmicks observed during the campaigns and debates leading to the victory of the Republican candidate, Donald Trump, remain a shock not only to the American electorate but also to the world. It is therefore not surprising that both indigenous and non-indigenous Americans alike from all shades of political interests took to the streets protesting the collective choice of the foremost democracy, especially in view of the fact that the incumbent president, Barack Obama, had put all his weight behind the loser, Hillary Clinton. Perhaps, one may be tempted to align with the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, who likened what happened in the US to the result of the 2015 election in Nigeria. Except that President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory was not greeted with a similar protest. Against all odds and without prejudice to the consequences of the w

"So I walked up around the street and I went, ‘Oh, right there.' There's this stupid bird house that I've seen a hundred times, never even giving it a second thought to and so I went and got a ladder and I walked over there, opened the lid and there's a camera  inside of the bird house pointing at our house." While a sneak peek of the episode features home video of the camer
