Image
Nigeria's chief technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has revealed that his team faces a tough task against Algeria on Saturday after the Super Eagles started their FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 campaign with a 2-1 away win against Zambia at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium last October. Rohr says he is aware of the huge task ahead in the Super Eagles’ quest for a sixth World Cup appearance, saying they won't leave any stone unturned in the race to Russia 2018.   “We are happy we won and took the three points from our match against Zambia; I believe all the games in this group will be difficult to win because all the four teams are very strong but we are going to prepare for our next games,” Rohr told CAF's official website CAFonline.com 'I believe all the games in this group will be difficult to win because all the four teams are very strong. Algeria which is the number one team in Africa must be disappointed for dropping points at home against Camer

The Zonal Director of the Agency, Mr Adeleke Ajani, indicted the two companies on Tuesday, while addressing the Osun State House of Assembly, following complaints of environmental pollution levelled against the company by some residents of Ife North and Ifelodun Local Government Areas of the state. Mr Adeleke, who revealed that his Agency had on several occasions written letters of concern to the companies over the harmful effects their operation is having on the environment and the people, said the steel companies had also failed in fulfilling their corporate social responsibilities. “We are not satisfied with the operations of the two iron and steel companies at Ikirun and Ife. Senate probes CCB for dumping N8bn site for N9bn building

Image
Leke Baiyewu, Abuja The Senate on Tuesday launched a probe into the alleged abandonment of an N8bn Code of Conduct Bureau permanent site under construction for the purchase of a building valued at N9bn. The lawmaker representing Kogi-West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye, who moved the motion for the probe during the day’s plenary, alleged that after the CCB got an approval from the National Executive Council to build its permanent site, the contract for its permanent site was reviewed upwardly from over N3bn to over N8bn. He added that after the contract was awarded and over N1.4bn (representing about 16 per cent of the contract sum) had been paid to the contractor, the bureau had abandoned the construction project which had reached 10 per cent completion. “Surprisingly, in the 2016 budget, the CCB, rather than investigate why the work done on site was not commensurate with the money released, requested for the purchase of a new building to serve as

EPL: Mourinho blasts lay bare Man United tensions

Image
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho’s man-management skills are under scrutiny after he appeared to publicly accuse defenders Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling of malingering. Whilst not mentioning either player by name, Mourinho expressed unhappiness after the pair missed United’s 3-1 win at Swansea City on Sunday, suggesting they had shown a lack of bravery. Some British newspapers reported on Tuesday that Shaw and Smalling were now “fighting for their futures” at Old Trafford. Left-back Shaw, 21, was said to be “baffled” over his treatment by Mourinho, who succeeded Louis van Gaal as United manager in May. The England international recently spent 11 months on the sidelines after sustaining a horrific double leg fracture in a Champions League game at PSV Eindhoven in September last year. He has been in and out of the team since making his first-team comeback in August and is reported to have felt pain in the leg he broke during last Thursday’s Europa League de

Prince Harry flays media intrusion over new American girlfriend

Image
Britain’s Prince Harry issued a rare statement on Tuesday to criticise the media for intruding into the private life of his new American girlfriend, actress Meghan Markle. He said the press had subjected her to “a wave of abuse and harassment”. British newspapers have been running daily stories about Markle, since news emerged that the 35-year-old actress was dating the prince, 32, the grandson of Queen Elizabeth. In the unusually forthright statement issued by Harry’s office which confirmed the relationship for the first time, the prince’s Communications Secretary said they had strive to keep defamatory stories from appearing in papers. “He has rarely taken formal action on the very regular publication of fictional stories that are written about him. And he has worked hard to develop a professional relationship with the media. “But the past week has seen a line crossed. His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some

Mikel, Odion Ighalo, Ogenyi Onazi, William Troost-Ekong, Moses Simon and John Ogu made up the first group. The second group had Victor Moses, Musa, Kenneth Omeruo, Kingsley Madu and Uche Agbo. Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi, Musa Mohammed and Wilfred Ndidi were in the third group, while goalkeepers Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi trained separately. Five 'key Isis recruiters' arrested in Germany

Image
German authorities arrested five men alleged to be key links in terror group Isis' recruitment network on Tuesday morning. Among the men - who are charged with supporting a foreign terror organization - is a 32-year-old known as “the preacher without a face”, an Iraqi by birth known as Abu Walaa. According to Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) information , authorities have long considered Abu Walaa - real name Ahmad Abdulaziz Abdullah A. - to be one of the central figures in the German Islamist scene. Federal prosecutors confirmed that the arrested men are 32-year-old Iraqi Ahmad Abdulaziz Abdullah A., 50-year-old Turkish citizen Hasan C., 36-year-old German-Serbian citizen Boban S., 27-year-old German Mahmoud O., and 26-year-old Cameroonian Ahmed F. Y. The arrests come after a year-long investigation into Abu Walaa and his inner circle, who investigators believe recruited young Muslims to travel to Syria to fight for Isis, supporting them logistically and financia

LeBron James passes Hakeem Olajuwon on all-time scoring list

Image
PHILADELPHIA -- A third championship in June cemented LeBron James ' place as a top-10 player in NBA history in many people's subjective rankings. There is no disputing his place as a top-10 scorer, at the very least, after Saturday. James passed Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon for 10th on the all-time scoring list in the first quarter of the Cavaliers ' 102-101 win over the 76ers on Saturday night. He scored on a fast-break layup with 6:02 remaining in the first quarter against Philadelphia, putting the Cavs up 14-7 and overtaking by one point Olajuwon's career total of 26,946 points in the process. James finished with 25 points on the night. "For me, scoring has never been on my list of goals," James said after the game. "Facilitating, getting my guys involved, and rebounding, defending, getting blocked shots and things of that nature always ranked above that, and for me to be in the top 10 with so many great players that's played thi

What Everyone Should Know About The Process Behind App Design

Image
I realized something the other day: I’ve been designing apps for nine years now! So much has changed since the early days and, it feels like developers and designers have been through a rollercoaster of evolutions and trends . However, while the actual look and functionality of our apps have changed, along with the tools we use to make them, there are some things that have very much stayed the same, such as the process of designing an app and how we go through the many phases that constitute the creation of an app. Sure, collectively you could argue that we’ve become a lot better at the process. We’ve invented new terminology and even completely new job titles to better facilitate the process of designing mobile applications. But, at its core, the process remains largely unchanged. The design process in broad strokes ( Large preview ) And while this approach has become a truism in most of our industry, it’s far from obvious for anyone entering the field. A lot of article

China Passes New Law To Tighten Cyber Security

Image
China, on Monday, passed a law to further tighten cyber security, a decision which has raised concerns that it could intensify already wide-ranging Internet censorship. The new rules, which were approved by the country’s rubber-stamp parliament and will go into effect next summer, are part of a broader effort to better define how the internet is managed inside China’s borders. Business groups, in August, had petitioned the Government to have a rethink on the proposed cyber security law, saying that it would hurt foreign companies and further separate the country from the internet. Officials on the other hand, say the rules would help stop cyber attacks and help prevent acts of terrorism, while critics have argued that it would only further erode internet freedom. Restrictions on the flow of data across borders “provide no security benefits but will create barriers to Chinese as well as foreign companies operating in industries where data needs to be shared intern

County health executive, Dr Bernard Muia, says the clinic has been gathering dust at a parking yard because it needs to be registered as a parastatal vehicle first before it is put to public use. Currently, the chassis on which the clinic sits bears a private vehicle registration number. It was handed to city officials with fanfare in September, becoming the 47th and last of such vehicles donated to all the counties in the country. “We are working with the Kenya Revenue Authority to ensure we change the private registratio

Militants bomb oil pipeline in Warri

Image
Nigerian militants on Tuesday bombed a state-run oil pipeline near the southern port city of Warri, the second attack within a week, a community leader and army officer said. “The line which was undergoing repair after the previous attack … was billed for commissioning either today or tomorrow,” before the latest attack, chairman of Batan community Dickson Ogugu told AFP. He said four surveillance guards deployed to protect the Trans Forcados export line narrowly escaped death after the militants opened fire on them. “The hoodlums after chasing them from the spot came down from their speedboat, planted dynamite on swamp boogie, barge, crane and on the line,” he said. “Unfortunately, only the dynamite on the barge exploded and immediately sank into the water. As I speak to you, the military are at the scene of the incident trying to dismantle the other dynamites.” An army officer, who did not want to be named, confirmed the incident. “We heard the shots in the

Eight cheating myths no woman should believe

Image
By NAIROBI NEWS REPORTER   Having another woman or women on the side is no longer news in the Kenyan relationship arena. A lot has been said about this cheating phenomenon. What you might not know is that some of the things that you have heard and believe to be true about cheating and those who do it are false. Here is a look into some of these; 1. Men cheat with someone younger and more attractive – This is simply not true. Often, affairs, especially where he cheats with just one person, are emotional. This means that he will cheat with the woman he connects with emotionally, not the most attractive. 2. He cheated so something is wrong with the marriage – This is another falsehood. Sometimes, men who have affairs are in perfectly happy relationships. Don’t be quick to blame yourself or your relationship if he cheated. 3. Once a cheater, always a cheater – This is the most common cheating myth in Kenya. To be fair, there are men who will cheat on you multipl

REUTERS/Jacky Naegelen TPX IMAGES OF THE DAY   By Laurie Goering   LONDON (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Efforts to build a new global deal to tackle climate change were for many years criticised for moving at a glacial pace. But this week climate negotiators meeting in Morocco find themselves facing an entirely new problem: a deal that, astonishingly, has come into effect more than three years ahead of schedule. The Paris Agreement on climate change, designed to start in 2020, entered into force on Friday, a month after reaching key ratification thresholds. On Sunday, the United Nations said 100 parties - 99 countries and the E
