Solange Looked Like an Ethereal Queen on SNL
By
As if I needed another reason to love singer-songwriter and my sister (in my imagination) Solange Knowles...
The singer songwriter performed "Cranes in the Sky" and "Don't Touch my Hair", both songs from her newest album, A Seat At The Table, for the first time on last night's episode of Saturday Night Live. The album, Solange's fourth, which she worked on for four years, is truly a gift—as was this performance.
And to see it up close—as I was lucky enough to do during yesterday's
dress rehearsal—I was amazed by her stunning wardrobe, energy and stage
presence. Dressed as the true ethereal queen that she is, Solange
performed "Cranes in the Sky" wearing a halo braided and hand beaded by
artist Shani Crowe. It took Crowe over 40 hours to complete. Erickson
Beamon collaborated with Swarovski to create the custom crystal dress
and earrings for the performance, a look created by stylists Jason
Rembert and Eric McNeal.
In the official "Don't Touch my Hair" video,
Solange wore a beaded hairstyle inspired by jazz pianist, Patrice
Rushen. During Knowles' SNL performance of "Don't Touch My Hair" she
rocked an afro styled by celebrity hair stylist Chuck Amos and wore an
all white look comprised of high waisted white pants, and a white crop
top. She was accompanied by the artist Sampha and a slew of backup
artist, who also wore natural hair styles and all white.
Mom Tina Knowles and sister Beyonce were there to cheer her on, too.
