Nigeria to lose 300, 000bpd as militants bomb three oil pipelines

Image
The Niger Delta Avengers militant group said it has bombed three oil pipelines in southern Nigeria, an attack it said would lead to a production loss of 300,000 barrels per day in the OPEC-member nation. Attacks on pipelines by several militant groups have slashed Nigeria’s oil production helping to tip the country into recession as it struggles to adapt to the low price of crude globally. The Niger Delta Avengers, blamed for a wave of such attacks since the start of the year, said the latest bombing was to register its displeasure with way the government was handling grievances in the oil region. “At about 11.45 pm November 15, 2016, our Elite Strike Team 03 struck Nembe 1, 2 and 3 truck line operated by Agip, Oando and Shell with supply capacity of 300,000 barrel per day to Bonny export terminal in Bayelsa State,” the NDA said in a statement late Tuesday. We are only reiterating our strong resolve that time is running (out) against the Nigerian government, t...

Diabetes is no longer a rich-world disease

Image
EVERY six seconds a person somewhere in the world dies as a consequence of diabetes, according to estimates by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). In 2015 5m lives were lost to the disease, more than were claimed by AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria combined. Moreover, the toll is rising faster than forecasters have expected. Nearly half of these deaths are among people younger than 60. In parts of Africa, where the condition is much less likely to be diagnosed, that share is more than four-fifths. The rise of diabetes has been misjudged repeatedly. In 1995 the World Health Organisation estimated that 135m 20- to 79-year-olds had diabetes, and that this figure would more than double in three decades. But reality outpaced this stark projection by a huge margin: just twelve years later the number of people with diabetes had already nearly doubled. Since then, the rise of diabetes has been so steep that prevalence closed in on projections even faster. In 2015, the e...

However, the couple have remained adamant in their decision to name their child after Trump after series of criticisms emerged on social media from Kenyans against the idea. Mrs Lorna Akoth, disclosed that their three month baby was named after Trump because herself and her husband, Mr Felix admired Trump’s open mind that made him make tough statements regardless of his audience during the campaign. “At the time, I was not sure whether Mr Trump would pull a surprise victory but I had the conviction the businessman had what it took to be a leader. Most politicians are not sincere like him. I admired him because he is a man who says what he thinks. He was frank and firm. At least he spoke the truth without using propaganda or lies to win vo...
