Health: Scientists in UK are working on making babies from 2 women and 1 man

Image
Scientists in UK have been given the go-ahead to carry out a treatment that will make it possible for babies to be made from two women and a man.  The UK's fertility regulator, the Human Fertilisation and Embryo Authority, gave the green light to the technique in December 2016 and has now agreed to its use by a clinic at Newcastle University. The technique is known as mitochondrial donation, the in vitro fertilization technique involves replacing faulty mitochondria inherited from the mother with the healthy mitochondria of another woman as a way of preventing mitochondrial disease from being passed on to a child.  Sally Cheshire, the fertility regulator's chair, announced the approval saying: "I can confirm today that the HFEA has approved the first application by Newcastle Fertility at Life for the use of mitochondrial donation to treat patients'. Patients will now be able to apply individually to the HFEA to undergo mitochondrial donation treatment at Newcastl...

Business: Rupee gains 9 paise against US dollar in early trade

Image
The rupee strengthened by 9 paise to trade at 65.37 against the dollar in opening trade on Monday on fresh selling of the US currency by exporters and banks. A weak dollar in overseas markets and selling of the US currency by exporters and banks supported the rupee in opening trade, forex dealers said. Further, a higher opening in the domestic equity market and strong FII inflows influenced the rupee uptrend, they added. On Friday, the rupee had lost 5 paise to end at 65.46 against the US currency on dollar demand from importers and suspected RBI intervention, ending its four-day dream run. Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose by 50.49 points, or 0.17 per cent, at 29,699.48 in opening trade.

Business: US dollar continues post-Fed rate rise slide, Asian stocks mixed

Image
The US dollar continued its slide in the wake of last week’s widely expected decision by the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates, while Asian stocks were mixed. The US dollar index remains the focal point for markets, extending its losing streak to a fourth session during Asian trading, which is on track to be its longest losing run since early November, just before the US presidential election. The dollar index, a measure of the US currency against a basket of global peers, was off 0.1 per cent to 100.17 today, after dropping 0.9 per cent last week for its largest weekly fall since mid-January. The yen was 0.2 per cent stronger at ¥112.53 per dollar despite its home market being shut for a holiday, and was facing a fifth consecutive session of gains. The Australian dollar was up 0.2 per cent at $0.7719 at its highest level since early November. Singapore’s Straits Times index was off 0.5 per cent, weighed down by banks and the energy sector. Over the weekend, Ezra Hol...

Health: Three steps to tightening your vagina naturally

Image
Well, some people fear that a woman can become quite roomier down there after having a baby. Of course, pregnancy and childbirth are two of life’s experiences that women have and are never ever the same again. Indeed, experts warn that being loose down below is not the result of too much sex, as there are several causes, including menopause and ageing. As for childbirth, an obstetrics/gynaecologist, Dr. Hilda Hutcherson, assures that in most cases, childbirth will not ruin vaginas. She says, “It’s true that the pelvic-floor muscles may be taxed during a vaginal delivery, which means the opening may feel looser and sex can feel different for some women for a few months, but the vagina is an amazing, elastic organ that can stretch enough to bring a 10-pound baby safely into the world and then snap back to its normal size.” So, guys, take it easy. It’s your child she has had, right? Now, if, truly, a woman needs to be a little tighter down below for whatever reasons, here’s...

Image
At a rally in Nashville, Trump called the ruling by U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson's freeze on his travel ban (read  here ) as “terrible” and asked a cheering crowd whether the ruling was “done by a judge for political reasons.” He said the administration would fight the case “as far as it needs to go,” including up to the Supreme Court, and added that he was persuaded by advisers and even the 9th district judges to sign a “watered-down version” of his first travel ban. Trump called the ruling an "unprecedented judicial overreach" He said: “A judge has just blocked our executive order on travel and refugees coming into our country from certain countries. The order he blocked was a watered down version of the first order.  "Let me tell you something, I think we ought to go back to the first one and go all the way”. “The danger is clear, the law is clear, the need for my executive order is clear.” "This ruling makes us look weak which by the ...
